Andrea Traynor, MD
Dr. Andrea Traynor is a highly accomplished anesthesiologist with over two decades of experience in the field. As a Clinical Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine, she has made significant contributions to medical education, particularly in obstetrical anesthesiology and women’s health.
Dr. Traynor completed her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado Boulder, graduating summa cum laude. She then earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Louis University before completing her anesthesiology residency at Stanford University School of Medicine. Driven by her passion for women’s health, she pursued a fellowship in obstetrical anesthesiology at Stanford, further honing her skills in this subspecialty.
Throughout her career, Dr. Traynor has demonstrated a strong commitment to advancing medical education. She served as the Program Director for the Obstetric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Stanford for eight years, during which she spearheaded a major curriculum overhaul. Her dedication to teaching and mentorship has earned her national recognition, and she has held leadership positions both as a Program Director and within her subspecialty.
As a Co-Editor in Chief for two textbooks, the Manual of Clinical Anesthesiology (1st and 2nd editions) and the first online learning program for anesthesiology, Learnly Anesthesia, Dr. Traynor has played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of her field. Her innovative approach to learning modalities has helped to enhance the training of countless anesthesiologists.
Beyond her clinical and educational roles, Dr. Traynor is a passionate advocate for reproductive rights and women’s health. She co-founded Help-A-Heart CPR, a program that brings hands-only CPR training to communities, and served on its Board of Directors.
